By the Author’s Hand:
My writing career began with reading. Growing up, I would read everything I could possibly get my hands on, even if it meant reading the yellow pages of the phone book. Back when encyclopedia salesmen were a thing, my parents had a set, and after I’d run out of classic fairytales, fantasy or science fiction books to read, I’d start at ‘A’ and spend my summers working my way to ‘Z’. Reading is what planted the seed of bibliophilia within me, and that seed rooted deep within the strange, fertile landscapes of my imagination.
I’ve always loved fantasy and science fiction best, with my earliest favorite authors being Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks. It was tales of dragons, swords, and magic that first drew me to the role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons, and that is when I began to write. At first, it was just elaborately detailed character backgrounds for characters that would never get the chance to go on adventures. Real life kept getting in the way of my fantasy life. It still does, if I’m honest. Getting a bunch of geeks and gamers together for game night is not unlike trying to herd cats. Everyone has jobs, or school, or family obligations that preclude the needs of imaginary thorpes beset by orcs and goblins. If it weren’t for the advent of online roleplay through sites like roll20 and Foundry, I’d never get my D&D fix.
